Great Things are Happening in Eureka!
This week the Board of Aldermen approved moving forward with the Legion/Lion Park Improvement Master Plan.
The City staff, volunteers, Board, and outside consultants have been working on this plan for several months. We also incorporated many ideas we received from residents when we published this initial master plan earlier this year.
The plan includes:
- Trail upgrades (Drewel park trails are connected to a new loop trail through Legion and Lions park that also connects to the flat creek trail).
- New backstops, outfield fences, and shade structures for the baseball fields.
- Two new Pavilions to replace the outdated pavilions in Legion and Lions with new concrete pads and better drainage.
- New Legion Bathroom.
- Increased Parking.
- Realigned crossings on Bald Hill road to increase safety.
All of these improvements plus several others are included in the images below. The cost of these upgrades will be paid for partly through a grant, and partly from funds from our utility sale. Currently we estimate the total cost to be $3.5 Million. These upgrades will greatly enhance our baseball facility, and enhance the many events we have in these parks. They will also add additional trails for everyone to enjoy. And for those soccer families out there, we are continuing to work on significant improvements to soccer facilities that we will announce in the coming months. This is also part of our efforts to invest in our city youth sports and outdoor activities as part of our merger with ESA.
We hope you are excited about these new facilities. Our goal is to have them online and operational by the fall of next year (with some items being installed earlier).
