1. How much is the monthly fee for Trash beginning January 2023?

The monthly rate for trash/recycling and yard waste will be $24.56 in 2023. It will increase slightly (less than $2.00 each year) until 2027.

Trash, recycle and yard waste is billed quarterly at $73.68 per quarter.  (this fee does not include extra cart rental, etc.)

This includes one (1) ninety-five (95) gallon trash cart and one (1) sixty-five (65) gallon recycling cart at no charge. You may request a (65) gallon or (35) gallon trash cart in place of the (95) gallon cart the first sixty (60) days of your service starting. 

If you require additional carts for trash and/or recycling you must lease them from Meridian Waste at a rate of $5.00 per cart per month. No other carts will be allowed for trash and recycle.

2. What happens to my waste connections cart after the last pick-up in December??

The Waste Connections cart will be picked up following the last pick-up in December.

Please note the new Meridian Waste carts are not be used until after January 2nd.

3. Why can't I use my own cart?

• Meridian trucks are all automated and set up to pick up Meridian designed carts with the truck’s arm.  
• By using these carts, it allows the hauler to be more efficient and leaves less room for possible service delays.
• The contract the City negotiated included this provision; which allows us to better control trash rates.
• If the 95 gallon trash cart is too large for your needs you can swap your cart for a 65 gallon or 35 gallon option.  You may also swap your 65 gallon recycling cart for a 35 gallon cart. Call 314.291.3131 ext. 4002

Waste Connections also bid to continue hauling the City's trash.  Their fee would have been higher for the same service Meridian Waste will be providing.  

4. Why did the City choose a contractor that did not allow unlimited trash collection?

The City of Eureka contacted Waste Connections about renewing our contract in 2023.  They informed us that Eureka was operating under a very old model of unlimited trash collection and any contract moving forward would not include this.

The Board of Aldermen made the decision to go out for bid for trash collection.  No other company allowed for unlimited trash pick up.

Based on several factors, Meridian Waste was chosen as the City's new trash hauler.

7. How are bulky items handled by Meridian Waste?

Meridian Waste will provide pick-up for bulky waste items each week with a maximum of two (2) items per week. Bulky items must be scheduled prior to collection by calling 314.291.3131 extension 4002.

8. Will Meridian Waste pick up yard waste?

Up to twenty (20) (in total) yard waste bags containers or bundles will be picked up each week.  You may convert the old Eureka recycling carts or any other non-Meridian waste cart to hold yard waste.  There are stickers at City Hall that can be placed on the cart or you can call Meridian and they will mail you stickers.

9. What if I have a large box that I can not break down to go in my recycling cart?

All recycle items need to be put in your cart.  Large boxes can be cut up and placed in the cart or yuo can call Meridian Waste and ask for a bulky item pick up and leave the box outside of the cart.

10. Should I bag my recycling?

Do NOT bag recyclable materials.

11. What holidays are observed by Meridian Waste?

Meridian Waste observes the following holidays:

New Year's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day and Christmas Day

12. What happens if my trash is missed?

Collection time begins at 6:30 a.m.  If your house was missed, call 314.291.3131  

Meridian will either pick your trash up the same day or the next day depending on the time of notification.

13. What are white goods?

White goods are appliances.  Meridian Waste will collect white goods one (1) time per month. White goods must be scheduled prior to collection by calling 314.291.3131 extension 4002.
